Cymatics – Sound Made Real

For the release of the single “Cymatics”, the New Zealand musician Nigel Stanford produced and starred in this amazing video directed by Shahir Daud.

The video is an edit of a series of experiments that are based on cymatics, that is the study of visible sound co vibration, a subset of modal phenomena. A series of devices interact with the music, activating movements in water, fire, sand, liquid metal and electricity, playing games of light and shapes that are, for lack of a better word, AWESOME!

As you can see on the backstage video, all the effects shown are done without any digital special effects. All this comes from the artist’s interest for synesthesia, a rare condition in which two or more of the senses entwine.
